WHAT WE DO


Primarily we have been trying to empower the women and in the process of achieving our mission, we understand empowering means educating. Therefore we provide to our stakeholders:

• Training in soft skill, spoken English & ITC for better employability and financial independence

• Besides, indeed, girls are perusing their formal education under our direct supervision.

• Adult education

• Socio-legal counselling &

• Awareness camps to prevent:

♦ Domestic violence

♦ Sexual harassment

♦ Child marriage and other abuses

♦ Stigma of menstruation & hygiene (MHM)

In the awareness camps our unique tool is performing street theatres with socio-legal message to enlighten and empower women and girls based on the following Social issues & Acts:

1. অশুভ বিবাহ (Inauspicious marriage) based on the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act (PCMA) 2006

2. আয়না (Mirror) based on Child Marriage and Trafficking

3. হাভাতে (Destitute) based on the Effects of Child Marriage.

4. মরণাতঙ্ক (Fear of Death) based on Maternal Mortality (MMR) and Infant Mortality (IMR)

5. লোহিত ব্যাথা (Red Pain) based on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) and Health

6. তিন সত্যি (Three truths) based on Hindu Widow's Re-marriage Act, abolishing polygamy & Restraining Child Marriage Act 1929.

7. টেস্ট টিউব বেবি (Test Tube Baby) based on Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT Act No. 57 of 1994)

8. পুত্র যজ্ঞ (Worship for son) based on the insatiable desire for son

9. দ্বি বিবাহ (Bigamy) based on the Indian Constitution Sections 493, 494, 495 & 496 of IPC (Deceitful Marriage, Bigamy, illegal marriage, etc.)

10. বিয়ের ঘুষ (Bribe for Marriage) based on the The Dowry Prohibition Act 1961 & Dowry Death Sec 304-B

OUR ONGOING ACTIVITY


End Child Marriage to Ensure the Right to be a Girl project.

Our Project design is for advocacy, awareness camps and capacity building of village Panchayat members, community heads, teachers, primary health service providers, parents and adolescent girls. The project components are baseline survey, door-to-door campaign, several campaign & awareness camps, each camp will be supplemented by highly skilled street theatre explaining ills of child marriage and highlighting various socio-legal provisions to End Child Marriage and effect of early marriage.

Ending Child Marriage is, our (SHE), an ongoing endeavour to strengthen girl, the dignity of the girl child and her status in the vulnerable areas. The project seeks to motivate a sustained behaviour change towards girls in the community with special reference to stopping child marriage and continuing school education. In slums of South Kolkata, of India, our small but continuing project has already made long lasting impact. Present project is located in Canning Sub division, South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal State, India.

We are also campaigning benefits of Menstrual Health Management & Hygiene with free distribution of Sanitary Napkins. We are getting Napkins as donations in kind from friends & well-wishers.
